FAQ

Dental Cleaning

How often should I have my teeth cleaned?

Regular cleanings are the best way to maintain good oral health and wellness. Be sure to have your teeth cleaned professionally by our team every six months to keep your teeth cavity-free and your gums healthy.

Are cleanings covered by insurance?

Yes, for the majority of patients, checkups and cleanings are covered in part or full by insurance. Most major dental insurance plans cover two preventive visits a year. Deep cleanings are often covered in part by insurance, although the total rate of coverage will depend on your insurance provider.

How often should I see the dentist?

While every patient is different with unique dental care needs, you can expect to visit at least twice yearly, or every six months. This allows Dr. Clarkman and the team the opportunity to monitor changes in your oral health and make timely treatment recommendations.

Do dental cleanings hurt?

Generally, no, cleanings are very comfortable for most patients. Our dental hygienists are very skilled and take their time to make sure you never feel any pain or discomfort. Patients with tender, swollen, or bleeding gums may experience some discomfort during their cleaning due to the condition of their gums, but we try to make sure all our patients are as comfortable as possible at all times.

Teeth Whitening

Do over-the-counter teeth whitening treatments work?

Yes, but they contain weaker bleaching gels than the kinds of options available at your dentist’s office. This is why over-the-counter and at-home whitening solutions take many uses over days or weeks to provide visible results. Buying drugstore alternatives such as whitening toothpaste, rinses, whitening strips, and kits can add up over time. A session with us in the office can provide instant results that may take weeks and multiple at-home treatments to achieve.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, teeth whitening is a safe procedure. Our peroxide-based bleaching treatments use specifically formulated ingredients that brighten teeth without causing irritation to your sensitive gums. Opalescence’s chemically activated works without hot, uncomfortable LED whitening lights, making for a more pleasant treatment experience.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Generally, no, teeth whitening is a very comfortable procedure. The Opalescence teeth whitening gel contains potassium nitrate and fluoride for patient comfort, preventing irritation and strengthening your enamel throughout your treatment.

Emergencies

Do you offer sedation?

Yes, we do. We provide sedation based on your immediate dental needs to help you feel comfortable and relaxed during your visit.

Is an emergency dental exam expensive?

The total cost of your treatment will depend on your case and unique needs. That said, we do everything we can to offer affordable dental care at transparent prices, including all emergency services. We also offer flexible financing options to help you cover all out-of-pocket expenses.

Can you see me today?

We do everything we can to see you! We can’t guarantee appointment times, so be sure to call us in case of an accident or emergency.

Should I go to the ER for a dental emergency?

Dental emergencies can sometimes be frightening and we understand your first instinct may be to go to the hospital. But unless you’re experiencing severe symptoms of uncontrolled bleeding or swelling, you should contact your local dentist right away.

Dental Implants

How many appointments will it take to get implants?

You will visit our office 3-4 times during your dental implant treatment experience. The full process includes your initial consultation, treatment planning, surgery, and follow-ups to check on your progress.

Do you offer sedation?

Yes, our team provides nitrous oxide sedation to patients undergoing implant surgery to ensure a painless and relaxing experience.

What happens if I don’t get an implant?

Missing teeth make it difficult to properly eat your food, leading to digestive problems and nutritional deficiencies. After you lose a tooth, your jaw will also begin to shrink, which will cause your facial muscles to sag.

Do implants hurt?

Getting an implant involves a minor surgical procedure, during which your dentist will insert the implants into your jawbone. Be sure to follow the post-operative care instructions we provide you with to ensure a comfortable recovery.

All-on-4 Dental Implants

Are fixed full arch dentures expensive?

The cost of All-on-implants can vary depending on a variety of factors, including the type and number of implants needed, the complexity of the surgery, and any other treatments that may be necessary. On average, All-on-implants treatments tend to cost more than traditional single tooth due to their advanced nature. However, many patients find this cost worth it due to their increased durability and longevity compared to traditional dentures.

Are fixed full arch dentures faster than other implants?

All-on-dental-implants are a swift procedure that can often be completed in just one visit to the dentist’s office. This means you can get a full set of teeth replaced in a single appointment, eliminating time spent dealing with partial dentures or waiting for multiple appointments or surgeries for other dental implants. Moreover, since All-on-dental-implant posts are placed at once during the same procedure, there is less risk associated with each step and less overall recovery time associated with your treatment plan.

How long does it take to heal after my dental implant surgery?

The healing process for an All-on-denture treatment typically takes 3-6 months before complete recovery is achieved. However, you will hopefully be healing with teeth fixed in place. During this period, patients can expect some swelling and pain at the site of the implant placement, although this will diminish after several days post-surgery. Additionally, dietary restrictions such as soft foods should be followed while recovering from the procedure in order to give adequate time for proper healing and integration between your mouth’s existing bone structures and the newly placed titanium posts before more strenuous activities such as chewing are resumed. After several months following initial placement, your dentist will assess how well your body has integrated with these new titanium posts to determine if you’re ready for your final restoration.

Invisalign

Can teens get Invisalign?

Yes, many teens can benefit greatly from Invisalign treatment. Many young patients may be candidates for clear aligners, so be sure to talk to Dr. Clarkman about an Invisalign consultation for your teen or tween.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign orthodontic aligners are totally clear and are barely noticeable when you speak or smile. The aligners are also removable, so you can enjoy your favorite meals and snacks without damaging your aligners or impacting your treatment. This makes Invisalign an excellent choice for busy adults or teens involved in sports activities in which metal braces present challenges.

Is Invisalign covered by insurance?

Ys, the cost of Invisalign treatment is typically covered in part by most major dental insurance plans. Your out-of-pocket expenses will depend on your plan and stated benefits. Our team will confirm your insurance benefits to help you make the most of your coverage.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Invisalign is a flexible treatment option. It uses the latest technology and fabrication, allowing it to be tailored to your unique orthodontic needs. Dr. Clarkman will perform a full assessment of your teeth during your free Invisalign consultation so he can provide you with a breakdown of all treatment costs. That said, Invisalign is comparable to the cost of braces, making it affordable for most patients and families.

Veneers

What kind of veneers can I get?

At Roots Dental, our team offers high-quality veneers made from ceramic. We choose this material for its strength, durability, and lifelike appearance.

Are veneers permanent?

Veneers are a permanent cosmetic procedure. They need a thin layer of enamel to be removed from your teeth prior to placement and are bonded to the remaining tooth structure. For this reason, only a trained dental professional can make repairs or adjustments to your veneers.

How long do veneers last?

The lifespan of your veneer depends on the type you choose, and your veneers will eventually need to be repaired or replaced just like any other dental work. A set of ceramic veneers will last 20 years or more, which is why we recommend it to our patients.

Do veneers hurt?

Generally, no. Patients who receive 2-4 veneers typically experience no discomfort. However, patients who receive eight or more veneers may experience some sensitivity or tenderness in the gums. Your dentist will take every precaution during your veneer preparation and administer local anesthetic or sedation as needed to ensure your comfort.

How long does it take to get veneers?

On average, you can expect the process of getting your veneers to take 3-4 weeks. You’ll visit our office 2-3 times during this time, from your initial consultation to the final fitting and application.

Roots Dental is here to make you smile.
